The Values We Practice From
-
No “bad” Foods
Unless you have an allergy, intolerance, or medical condition, all foods have a place.
-
No Restrictive Diets
You need nutrients and satisfaction. We focus on variety and addition rather than restriction and deprivation, which can lead to cravings, nutritional deficiencies and feelings of out of control.
-
Small Shifts Add Up
Major overhauls and big shifts don't usually last. We guide you through small, realistic goals so your efforts can be long lasting, creating change for a lifetime instead of a quick fix.
-
Trust Your Intuition
Do you trust your body? We help you tune in, question and give yourself permission to trust your own hunger cues, needs, cravings and preferences.
-
Honor the Progress, Not Perfection.
There is no “perfect” way to eat. We help you lean into self-compassion and curiosity rather than guilt or shame, honoring the process of learning what works for you and your goals.
-
Food is More Than Fuel
Your food should support you, your lifestyle and your overall wellbeing. We empower your success with nutrition through finding enjoyable eating habits, honoring food preferences and implementing realistic behavior changes that fit your life.
What to Expect in Nutrition Counseling
We don't just tell you what to eat — our approach helps you understand your nutritional needs, recognize the physiological and metabolic factors that influence your response to food, overcome challenges, identify what’s working, and develop practical strategies for lasting success.
-
Your initial appointment is a 75-minute, in-depth nutrition assessment designed to give us a comprehensive understanding of your health, lifestyle, and nutrition needs. During this session, we take the time to explore:
✔ Your reason for seeking support – What brought you in and what you hope to achieve
✔ Nutrition-related symptoms & medical conditions – Identifying nutrition-related insufficiencies, excesses, and medical factors that impact your health and well-being.
✔ Eating habits & nutrient intake – Types, amounts, and timing of food, supplements, and medications
✔ Health history & lab results – Reviewing medical diagnoses, recent tests, vitals, and procedures
✔ Barriers & challenges – Identifying obstacles related to food, nutrition, and overall well-being
✔ Lifestyle factors – Sleep, stress, physical activity, self-care, and other health-related routines
✔ Food environment & accessibility – Exploring how availability and beliefs influence nutrition choices
✔ Personal goals & long-term vision – Defining what success looks like for you…and more!
In this first session, we take a comprehensive, personalized approach to understanding your unique relationship with food and health. Our goal is to create a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can candidly share your experiences. By assessing your nutrition patterns, lifestyle factors, symptoms, and personal goals, we begin developing a customized plan that supports your needs and integrates into your life
-
Follow-up appointments range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your needs. Since every individual is unique, there is no set number of sessions required—your plan is tailored to your progress and goals.
During follow-up sessions, we continuously assess and adjust your plan by evaluating:
✔ Your progress, identifying what’s working and what needs refinement
✔ How your body is responding, including any changes in symptoms
✔ Habit and behavior changes and their impact on your daily life
✔ Movement toward personal health and nutrition goals
✔ Lab results and medical test updates
✔ Medication interactions and supplementation needs
✔ Shifts in mindset and relationship with food
✔ Expanding nutrition knowledge and understanding
✔ Nutrition logs, journals, or other documentation
✔ Readiness for additional changes…and more!
Each session provides personalized support, expert guidance, and ongoing education to help you stay on track. We continually assess your progress and adapt your plan, ensuring it aligns with your evolving needs and long-term success.

In short: A dietitian can be a nutritionist, but a nutritionist cannot be a dietitian.
The key difference lies in education, training, and credentials. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are licensed healthcare professionals who must meet strict requirements, while the title "nutritionist" is not legally regulated and does not guarantee any formal training.
What Makes a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Different?
To become an RDN, individuals must complete:
✔ A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with coursework approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
Effective January 1, 2024, a master’s degree is required to take the credentialing exam to become an RDN.✔ An ACEND-accredited supervised practice program (also known as a dietetic internship), lasting between 7-24 months.
✔ A national registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
✔ Ongoing education — RDNs must complete 75 continuing education credits every 5 years to maintain their credential.
The Risks of Unregulated Nutrition Advice
Since "nutritionist" is not a legally protected title, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist without formal education or credentialing. While some may have basic knowledge of food and diet, many lack the depth of training needed to assess the full picture of health and nutrition science.
Common concerns with unregulated nutrition advice include:
❌ Overemphasis on diet culture and weight loss – Many self-proclaimed nutritionists promote rigid food rules, misinformation, fad diets, or fatphobic messaging, which can harm both physical and mental health.
❌ Limited understanding of medical conditions – Without the ability to provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT),nutritionists are not qualified to safely address conditions like diabetes, digestive disorders, cardiovascular disease, endocrine disorders, or autoimmune conditions.
❌ One-size-fits-all approaches – Many non-credentialed nutritionists focus on trendy, restrictive, or oversimplified advice rather than personalized, evidence-based recommendations that consider metabolism, hormones, genetics, and overall well-being.
❌ Potentially harmful recommendations – Without proper training, some nutritionists may misinterpret lab values, promote unnecessary supplement use, or encourage dietary patterns that lack essential nutrients.
Why Work with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)?
Unlike unregulated nutritionists, RDNs are licensed healthcare professionals who provide:
✔ Comprehensive, science-backed nutrition counseling tailored to your health needs and goals
✔ A weight-inclusive, whole-person approach to nutrition that prioritizes overall well-being, not just the number on the scale
✔ Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for disease prevention and management
✔ Ethical, unbiased, and evidence-based nutrition careLicensing in Montana
In Montana, anyone providing nutrition assessment and counseling must be licensed by the Board of Medical Examiners and registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. The RDN credential is recognized in many states as eligibility for dietetic licensure.
Additionally, RDNs can bill insurance for their services, while nutritionists cannot.
In short, an RDN is trained to see the full picture of health—not just food choices, but also metabolism, lifestyle, medical history, and long-term well-being.
